Kidz Blast meets every Sunday morning during the sermon portion of the main service, except for the last Sunday of every month which is our family Sunday.

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.

Testimonies

My name is Charlotte Thompson and I go to Living Water Church in Bridgeport, WV.

It was on April 28, 2021, that my testimony began. During this time, Covid-19 was everywhere. I was in bed sick with what I thought was bronchitis, which I’ve dealt with for years. The night before, my daughter and I had gone out to eat and had a good time together over dinner. The next morning, I was in bed. I didn’t think anything about it, because like I said, I thought it was bronchitis.

Usually, when I have this, I’m in bed for about three days. However, this time it was different. After the usual three days had gone by, I wasn’t getting any better and my husband wanted me to go to the ER. I didn’t want to go, thinking any day now I should start feeling better, but I didn’t. By this time, I wasn’t eating; I had no appetite at all. The thought of food made me nauseous. My not feeling well continued, with me getting weaker. So, after a week, I thought maybe I should give in and go to the ER, so I did. On May 5th, I was admitted. I was tested for Covid-19, and it came back positive. I waited in the ER for hours, as the staff were trying to get me into a room. I finally got into a room, only to find out that my sister had been admitted to the same hospital for COVID-19 as well, so she and I were on the COVID floor together. She had tested positive but had no symptoms. As for me, I didn’t know just how sick I was but was about to find out. The doctor started right away with an IV and put in a nasal cannula because my oxygen levels were low.

On March 21, 2024, I had my post-op visit after unexpectedly having had my appendix removed nearly 2 weeks earlier. I spent the morning shopping with my son and was looking forward to a relaxing evening at home. I was just going to run into my appointment, get checked out, and get my paperwork signed so that I could return to work the next week.

After an initial assessment by the nurse, the PA walked into the room and asked how I was doing, and looked at the small surgical sites which were nearly healed. He then sat down and opened his computer. He asked me if I had seen the pathology report in MyChart. I told him that I didn’t realize there was a pathology report (having forgotten that my appendix was sent away per protocol). He then proceeded to tell me that a cancerous tumor had been found. I was in shock. Cancer, what? He then said some other stuff which I don’t rightly remember and that the doctor would be in to talk with me in about 10-15 minutes. He then left. As I was sitting there waiting for the doctor, I asked myself a few times if he had just told me I had cancer. I couldn’t wrap my mind around this. To this point, I had always been healthy and never had any concerns other than an occasional sinus infection or seasonal allergies. I couldn’t imagine having cancer. Not to mention having cancer in an organ that no one even knows why we have. I got out my phone and tried to google it, but I couldn’t process what I was reading. I’m a nurse and have worked in Oncology for years. I knew about cancer. Yet suddenly I could barely comprehend the word much less anything related to it.

It’s the times in life you can’t see the mountain top, that knock the chunks out of you and begin the process of forming you into the person that you are today. Every day life sands the edges where the trials have left you jagged and damaged. It’s these times when you must turn your life over to the only One that is strong enough to get you through. That One is the Creator, The Alpha and Omega, The King of Kings, The Lord God Almighty….Jesus Christ the author of our Salvation!

2017 had been a pretty tough year for my family. Financially we had struggled, and there were some changes taking place with our sons, as they spread their wings and began their adult lives. These new dynamics weighed heavily on our family, especially myself. My wife De and I were raising our daughter, Elaina and living the best we could. I remember a conversation that De and I had the week between Christmas and New Year. We made the statement, “we are going to make 2018 a better year and we would do whatever it took to make that happen.” The first week of 2018 was only the beginning of the trials that were to be put in our path. This is our story!

It began with me coming down with the flu and missing the first seven days of work for the new year. Then Elaina came down with the flu as well the second week. In that same week, De came home from work with a severe pain in her stomach and had to be admitted to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy. This brings us up to the beginning of the 3rd week of the year that “we were going to make a better year.”
